From Bijay's father passes away

I knew him as Bijay's father- the later being very close to myself and my family for more than 15 years here at Rourkela. Though we both belong to Jagatsinghpur, Bijay was introduced through Sura Bhai with whom he stayed while studying in the local Government ITI and was very much known but became very close when he started living with his family in our house M-11, Chhend. I have met his father Bipin Bihari Parida only on a couple of occasions and had a chance to interact for quite a long time only twice -that too recently about 3-4 months back when he was also living with Bijay's family for treatment of no specific but mostly age-related sickness and bronchial asthma.He had a very simple life and had lived it well. Might be it was his culture, might be he had gained the experience, but he depended always on God. When he became sick at Alavara, he was shifted to Cuttack for treatment. Bijay and his family and Sanjay from Lathikata visied him at Cuttack. He improved and returned back home to Alavara. But probably this year's June heat and humidity was too much for his health and his condition worsened. He was shifted to Rourkela on 21st June and reached Bijay's place at 2 AM that night vis Lathikata. He met everyone of Sanjay's family there and took rest at Bijay's place. On 22nd morning had tea and passed away around 8 AM after taking some snacks in the lap of his son-in-law and son- probably due to heart attack. He has honoured us all at Rourkela by his last visit.
May his soul rest in peace.

KANCHAN NUABOU PASSES AWAY

 

She was a very simple soul sometimes very adhering to her point of view. Way back in late sixties of the last century, she was very close to me. She was married to Ekana Bhai who was the lone person from our village who worked in Rourkela Steel Plant and I was always carrying him to Jagatsinghpur market on the cycle.In return almost every day I had the chance of getting treated in Dhani Dokana apart from special delicacies from Suna Nuabou- Kanchan Nuabou's sister-in-law at their home.
Later when I also joined Rourkela Steel Plant as a doctor, our family always frequented Ekana Bhai's family.
What enderared her as a human being is her ability to donate a son to the elder sisiter-in-law who was without issues. She suffered a lot psychologically and physically when her second son Chita was diagnosed to have blood cancer and ultimately succumbed at the young age of 14. She endured these sufferings with the hope of returning back to her elder son Ranjan in village.
After Ekana Bhai's retirement, they both returned home but Kanchan had to go through a lot of psychological turbulence for many years. For small family feuds Ekana and Kanchan stayed out side their home for 4-5 years. It was recently- only a couple of days back- that she had returned to her own home and spent some time with her son, daughter-in-law and grandson.
She had diabetes- a family gift- for more than 30 years and had septicemia when she was shifted to SCB Medical College, Cuttack. She passed away in the early hours on 2nd June 2009. May God rest her soul in peace.

Sishir Acharya

A classmate of mine since SVM College days, Sishir visited Rourkela recently to attend a family function of a close family member and came to know of myself staying here. It was a memorable meeting after more than three decades but the face remains the same. Sishir works for the Govt. of Orissa and has been mostly posted in coastal districts. He's about to superannuate in August this year. We had a very cosy evening at his relation's place in Koelnagar on 2nd April 2009 and called both Shyama and Asit, Unfortunately both of them were out of town and therefore Sishir couldn't meet them this time.Hoping for a next time from Sishir with all four of us.
